N+P->W+Z=Tops=Higgs. This is the deadliest formula ever understood. This is the formula, that if formed destroys all matter. Period. This is the formula of supernovas. OK, why would I be writing about some obscure astrophysical formula you may ask. Well, because although the formula, and a basic understanding of what it means, is enough to scare you silly, it seems that the folks at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, have not been shall we say forthcoming concerning the risks of their supercollider, the LHC.
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a gigantic scientific instrument near Geneva, where it spans the border between Switzerland and France about 100 m underground. It is a particle accelerator used by physicists to study the smallest known particles – the fundamental building blocks of all things. It will revolutionize our understanding, from the minuscule world deep within atoms to the vastness of the Universe.
Two beams of subatomic particles called ‘hadrons’ – either protons or lead ions – will travel in opposite directions inside the circular accelerator, gaining energy with every lap. Physicists will use the LHC to recreate the conditions just after the Big Bang, by colliding the two beams head-on at very high energy. Teams of physicists from around the world will analyze the particles created in the collisions using special detectors in a number of experiments dedicated to the LHC.
There are many theories as to what will result from these collisions, but what’s for sure is that a brave new world of physics will emerge from the new accelerator, as knowledge in particle physics goes on to describe the workings of the Universe.
Wow that sounds wonderful, right? We finally get to understand the basic building blocks of ALL things. How bad can that be? Well, it turns out that there have been a number of nuclear physicists who have raised concerns about what reaction could be set off inside the collider after you smash these particles together.
In a nutshell, according to CERN Truth, the new particles that are formed from the collision, especially particles called up, down, and strange could form these very weird things called strangelets. These little devils then will provoke the ice-9 reaction (name taken from Cat and Cradle’s book in which a physicist destroys the world throwing a new type of water that freezes the planet, since an ice-9 reaction will condensate the planet in a 15 kilometers ultra-dense strange star).
OK, then this is real stuff and seems well understood. CERN wouldn’t ever risk such a thing, even if there were 0.00001% chance right. Indeed according to CERN public statements, the safety of people and the environment also depends on the safety of the delicate and unique equipment in use at CERN. Before the LHC start-up, a thorough assessment of the safety status of the accelerator was made. This included the completion of safety assessments carried out over several years, from the design to the commissioning of technical subsystems. During the first part of 2008, CERN’s Safety Commission executed about 20 safety audits, which covered the main safety systems of the accelerator and the four large LHC experiments. These systems are conceived to ensure safe functioning of the accelerator, its experiments and its infrastructure, as well as to prevent accidents, to transmit alarm signals reliably, and to minimize impacts in case an accident occurs. According to CERN the chances that such an ICE-9 reaction can’t be calculated because they are that remote. Well, at least publically and at thousands of hearings they said that exact thing.
Now it seems however, that CERN Truth has uncovered internal CERN documents that may say something else about the risks of such a reaction in the collider. In those documents CERN affirms there is a 65-70% chance of producing negative strangelets. Thus CERN has been lying and it is playing with all mankind a Quantum Russian Roulette game with 4 shots out of 6, 66% chances of extinction. This will be even if we survive the biggest genocide of history, calculated multiplying probability and victims: 66% x 6.6 billions=4.4 billions, 1000 times the Holocaust. The experiment will start on November 9th. We might be living the last month of our existence as individuals and as a species. This fall can be indeed the Fall of Man. And yet, the experiment is not stopped.
WTF! We are just going to causally initiate an experiment in quantum physics that MAY have a 66% chance of wiping out the planet and nobody in government is saying anything???? Really, tell me this is not so. CERN Truth must be a bunch of whackos right? Well I invite you to visit their site and judge for yourself. For my part, I think, especially based on everything going on, we might want to hold off a bit on this one.
